I have an estuary having 5 rivers as its inlet and 3 outlet connected to sea. I wanted to water balance of estuary and how it is changing with drastic change in surrounding landuse/land cover change. Is there any model that computes water balance of estuary?
There are a few ways to model this. You can model water balance using dynamic simulation software like Vensim, simulink (Matlab), or Stella. In this approach, you can develop the system dynamics and calibrate with data on flows and volume levels. This involves building the differential equations for each of the 5 rivers, estuary proper, and the 3 outlet fluxes.
Finite element methods are also useful; like Telemac2D model or RMA model for coastal processes.
