In the recent (quite controversial) paper about "Assembly theory" (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-06600-9#data-availability) the authors propose a way how to compute the complexity (i.e. assembly index) of any kind of object including raster data such as images as Leroy Cronin explains on this Lex Friedman podcast episode at around minute 10:00 (https://open.spotify.com/episode/14pAaXC9EThnZAOEzhzqR4?si=f42672507ced4c6f). His explanation on that is however quite vague and I struggle to come up with an efficient way of computing the assembly index for raster images so I was wondering if someone here might have an idea how to do this (ideally with Python)?
