Would this happened automatically when mixing two of them together? or should I added something else ?
The magnetite i got was dried nanopowder with 20nm radius bought from nanotech company , I mixed 0.3g of them with 2ml oleic acid, and wait for 0.5h.
Then , added the mixture into the kerosene(base fluid) , so i can disperse magnetite powder in kerosene.
After putting in ultrasonic bath(40kHz) for 30min , still can found some aggregation in the bottom of test tube.
Magnetite powder from the seller can have a stabilizer on the surface of nanoparticles not necessarily oleic acid. Find out. It is necessary to calculate the coating of nanoparticles with two monolayers of oleic acid and add it to kerosene.
Do you mind preparing the oleic acid grafted iron-nanoparticles from iron III chloride and oleic acid?

You can easily synthesize magnetite in the presence of oleic acid as capping agent. Then you will surely have magnetite with oleic acid and less aggregation. For capping the Fe3O4 with oleic acid the surface of this oxide has to have hydroxyl group that can interact with carboxylic groups of the acid.

after the mixing of nano powder and oleic acid put it under ultrasonic and it should be heated up to 120 F for 5 minutes. turn of ultrasonic after 2-3 minutes.
