I am trying to perform a non linear time history analysis on an 8-storey 3-bay RCC frame using 14 seismic records obtained from PEER database and scaled as per Eurocode 8. The problem is that at lower PGA values, the solutions converge easily, but as I keep increasing the PGA (by means scale factor) to which the frame is subjected, I start obtaining "Convergence Failure at time step ____". As far as I believe, and have seen from the obtained results, convergence failure leads to absurd results and must be dealt with. How do I choose the correct alpha for these ground motions so that the solutions converge? Newmark's method fails to converge very early (a little late when beta=1/4, very early when beta=1/6) so I don't think that'll work.
