After starting job as a technical officer in nation's leading agricultural research organisation, i am yet to get into first publication. I am here seeking suggestions and motivation for write up while I have already generated some useful data.
Identify what has already been published in your research area as this might give you ideas of popular journals.
Work up to a journal article socially, e.g. start with in internal presentation then an external conference presentation then an external conference paper. This will give you feedback and confidence.
Don't aim too high in your first publication. Use Scimajo to find Q2 and Q3 journals (although this is only a rough rule of thumb).
Aim for a major rewrite then work even harder to sati the feedback comments from the reviewers.
Only put one main new idea in a paper. Keep other ideas back for other publications.
I think as a technical officer you might be associated with a scientist (as it mostly happens in agricultural research system in India). If so, you may request your scientist for credit sharing in the ensuing publications containing the primary data generated by you. If you are an independent researcher, then think over the kind of data generated, the number of years of experimentation, the unique findings after data analysis, and so on. These will help you decide the choice of journal (impact factor). Your capacity to pay article publication charges will also determine as to whether you have to opt for an "open access" or a "hybrid" journal.
We know how to choose a good journal, but most researchers in the Middle East don’t have institutions that support and cover the costs of publishing fees, so the problem is not with selection, but with funding … thank you for your question.
The choice of a scientific journal depends on several main factors: scope of the journal, indexing in Scopus or Web of Science and impact factor. Naturally, it is very important that the proposed research in the manuscript meets the high requirements of the journal.
From my experience, I can say that attention should be directed towards the indexing of the journal (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) and the database in which the journal is indexed (WoS or Scopus). In addition, my recommendation is to pay attention to the speed of the paper's publication, i.e., the speed of the review, because in some journals the review can take a long time. An example of this is one of my papers that has been waiting for a review for 1 year. Considering this and considering the experience of publishing papers in various journals, MDPI proved to be the best for me personally in terms of speed of review and publication of papers and communication (they also offer the possibility of proofreading in English if needed).
