I'ma writing to you in relation to the following publication:

It is a translation from English into Spanish by my student, Laura Gata González, and myself.
The first surname of Laura Gata González, i.e. "Gata" had been badly introduced by the editor of the scientific review, Hermeneus (afterwards it was corrected though), to the doi system and Crossref, actually as "Gato" (and not "Gata"). In consequence, it went to researchgate with its wrong spelling "Gato". How can I correct this?
Please, give me some indications on this.
I have already corrected the wrong spelling of my own surname, but I am not able to do the same with other authors' data.

1- Reach out to the publisher of the translation. Explain your situation and the reason for the requested change.
- Provide proof of the name change, such as legal documentation.
- If the work is present on online bookstores or databases, contact them to request the update.
- If future editions of the translation are planned, the updated name will automatically be included.
The publisher / publishing house of the translation is responsible for this mistake/error. Therefore, they should change the name upon the translators' request.
Regarding the change of the translators' names on online bookstores or databases, the publisher is also responsible. The translators don't have this kind of authority to invene.
As far as future editions of the translation are concerned, the translators should discuss/negotiate the issue with the publisher, who is the responsible for the publication.
I don't think that there would be a problem with altering the spelling of the name, as long as there are other publications (not necessarily legal documents) that show how the names of the translators show in English and/or in Spanish
Anna, Laura only has to claim her ResearchGate profile and then proceed to correct this spelling issue in the specific item. You can also do that on Google Scholar, Orcid and Academia, as long as you are logged in. Regarding Scopus and Dialnet, you are only allowed to request the changes (mind you, the latter are far more diligent). Problem is, some platforms import their items' information from other platforms and then any misspellings can be very easily replicated without control if you are not on the lookout.
