Line up rotor in both d and q direction, then apply a voltage step to the stator and measure current with an oscilloscope. This procedure should give the current exponential time trend to estimate time constants. Direction of d-axis can be determined by d.c. voltage supply and the rotor at no-load should line up automatically. For q-axis rotate the rotor by 90 electrical degrees.
