Hi

The Poisson ratio definition is: the ratio of transverse strain to axial strain. And due to my knowledge if we want to apply a uni-axial ( for example in a direction) strain on the cell of 2D structure we should a bit increase the corresponding cell vector (say a ) and related atomic positions. Now, what is the transverse strain when we applied an uni-axial strain on a 2D structure cell? because the change applied only in a direction, it seems that the transverse change (or the transverse strain) is zero. Am I right?
