These figures of dry mass are from how much area, or if they were grown in pots, how much soil , did each pot accomodated, please mention that..

Plants were grown in pots containing about 5 kg soil but plants were not grown in whole area of the pots.Pots size is 60*30 cm2.

As you are looking for total biomass; you can use the formula

TDBW= TDWS/A (g/m2 )

TDBW=Total dry biomass weight (g/m2)

TDWS= Total dry weight of the sample

A= Area under consideration

As you have all the data, you can calculate by using the formula.

My experiment involves the growth of hydrophyte in containers containing only water and nutrients ( no soil).

To calculate biomass production, I have dry weights. Should I express the weights in g or g/m2 (i.e, divide by the area of the container)?
