Calculate rate constants: Use appropriate theoretical models or computational methods to calculate the rate constants for each reaction pathway. The rate constant represents the speed at which a reaction proceeds and is typically influenced by factors such as temperature, pressure, and energy barriers.

Sum the rate constants: Add up the rate constants for all the competing reaction pathways to obtain the total rate constant. This represents the sum of the probabilities of all possible reactions occurring.
