Biomass = (Dry Weight) * 0.054 gm/m2 ---------------- Equation (1)



Here 0.54 m2 is the area for each of the harvest plots.

Wheat and rapeseed are not really my specialty. I'm more a boreal&tundra specialist. That being said, no matter what equation you end-up using, you should have some ground truth data to make sure it works in you area.

Please find attached this manual from SEBAL model. It used Landsat but I think you can adapt the formula to your study area. Please check pages 19-20.

LAI processor has been developed , and it is available in the 4.0 release.

It is named “Biophysical Processor”, and computes several biophysicl variables : LAI, Cab, Cw, fAPAR and fCOVER.

The algorithm is more precise than what you can derive from NDVI, and actually consists in a neural network which inverts PROSAIL simulations.

Biophysical variables estimation, they are used neural networks in SNAP. The documentation is available here:

As I known, ESA has developed an established and operational algorithm for producing LAI, FaPAR, fCover using Sentinel data. You might download those product directly if you just use these products as intermediate data for your final purpose. I don't suggest you design a more pertinent method for your local scene if you are not a specialist. The easiest method will be creating the relationship between Sentinel-2 vegetation indices and ground measurements in some plots. Then you could use this relationship to whole study area. Of course, as Leblanc said, you need conduct field measurements of LAI.
