I got this equation to calculate the %transmittance:
%T= 10/(concentration of the solution x %T)
Unfortunately, I can't understand why the calculation is like that. Anyone knows, why is it like that?
FYI, this is the procedure:
1. Weigh 2.5 g of sample into a 25 mL volumetric flask (10% solution).
2. Dissolve with distilled water until half-filled, then sonicate for 15 minutes.
3. Dilute to volume with distilled water and mix well.
4. Measure the solution with a spectrometer.

I have to admit that I do not understand - if you measure the transmittance with a spectrometer - why would you need calculate it? On the other hand, where did you get this equation from? The simplest approximation is the Beer-Lambert law and the one you got has only the faintest similarity...

Yes, I agree with you. We don't need to calculate the %transmittance because the transmittance value will appear on the display of the spectrophotometer I used.
I don't know what the reference they used is.

Please follow the Beer-Lambert Law. As mentioned earlier answers why do you need to calculate transmittance once you already have that? T=I/Io and if you wanna calculate the absorbance use A= -log (T) considering min absorbance is o when max T is 1.
