I want to design high gain wifi 2.4 GHz planar antenna. Please, do you have any recommendation on how to increase the gain while keep the antenna size small? What about Partial Reflecting Surfaces (PRS)? Can this be useful at 2.4 GHz?

A strategy to increase antenna gain is to increase the effective aperture of the antenna. This can be done by using defected ground structures. Another way is to add a frequency selective surface or metamaterial lens to focus the boresight beam. Yet another approach is to use an omnidirectional radiator (e.g. bowtie antenna) and place a reflector ~quarter wavelength away, and that can realize a gain of around 9dBi. Adding side reflectors to the back reflector can focus the boresight beam further and achieve even higher gain. Hopefully these suggestions allow for your small size requirement.
you can used substrate with high dielectric constant to reduce the antenna size but the side effect is high surface waves which can solved by using EBG to reduce the surface waves and increased the antenna gain
