I want to model E-glass/Epoxy damage in SHPB test using a Hashin 3D creterion VUMAT but I faced the problem of elements distortion "ErrElemExcessDistortion-Step1 have distorted excessively". knowing that for interaction, I used general contact . I used also element deletion and use default for hourglass control. Depvar is set to 7 and variable number controling element deletion to 0.

I think you can activate the "status" option in the F-output.

Have you tried using Fully integrated elements instead of reduced integration and hourglas control..
Hey I have a doubt regarding SHPB test :
1) Is it Split-Hopkinson pressure bar test your wanted to simulate in the abaqus..
2) If so, I have a doubt. Have you made any experiments and validating with abaqus cae or are u implementing a damage model that drives the impact damage in the E-glass/Epoxy ..
3) If you have an experimental result, I think you will be using velocity - time results as the Boundary condition for your impactor I guess.
4) Or else, if we don't have any experimental results, how can we simulate impact loading such that abaqus can appropriately computes impactor velocities with time.
@mouli: I'm going to try Fully integrated elements as you have mentioned.
I performed high strain tests on E-glass/Epoxy composites using Split Hopkinson pressure bar and I'm instead of implementing Hashin3D damage model to reproduce damage modes in E-glass/Epoxy laminates.
For bounbary conditions, I applied an initial velocity to the striker in predefined fields.
What about using adaptive meshing for the specimen ?
For contact, is it convenient to use general contact?

Regarding Element Distortion, I too had the similar sought of problem while using Reduced Integrated elements. Where as if i am using fully integrated elements, activating the Status output in F-output, this problem stopped for me..
Regarding Adaptive meshing, I once tried to solve using Adoptive Meshing and was not successful. So, I can't comment on using Adoptive meshing..
I am trying to simulate the low velocity impact on the composite laminate, during my analysis if i am using the predefined velocity, i am unable to get and force-time plot on the reference point correctly. it is showing zero values through out the step. So, I need to know how to get the contact force - time plot duing the analysis..

I have a doubt that do we have to find the force history CFN3 on the target plate surface or on the impactor surface..
