Currently I am designing a structure in a flood prone area using SAP 2000. If anyone has concerned about this please help me by sharing your knowledge.
Flood is a variable load like earthquake. So if you are designing a column or retaining wall the effect of horizontal action due to floods should be captured.
We define flood loads on structures in https://doi.org/10.1016/j.enggeo.2004.01.010 and look at the implications of these loads in http://www.ilankelman.org/abstracts/kelmanspence2003bi.pdf and https://doi.org/10.1680/muen.2003.156.3.207
Development/Design of any structure in a flood prone area should naturally be varying from area to area in India that are prone to floods. Therefore, before fixing or assigning load due to flood in such a structure, elevation of such a structure, nature and height of flood waves, engineering geological aspects, foundation, stitching/anchoring of such a structure, filling material needs to be taken into consideration. Dr. Kelman has added a good reference.
