I have to apply constant potential of −0.50 V for 5 min for a 3-electrode system in HAuCl4 solution. I am using Electrochemical workstation. Which technique should I use? Is it, Normal Pulse Voltammetry or open potential-time technique or some else.
It depends on the instrument on which you are performing measurements. You can use NPV, DPV even CV. Because you just have to apply fix potential for fix time so technique does not matter at all.
The answer is in a text-book. Regardless of the technique, you will form a Au(0) film on your working electrode.
best techinique is the chronoamperometry. put the potential and time. it is same in every instrument

As in most of the answers I consider is better just to apply a potential (with a good reference electrode) for a time: amperometry. The initial potential of the step should be in a position without electron transfer, and then move to the potential where electrolysis occur. If you want to generate gold nano particles, you can do it like this or also galvanostatically (constant current) and you can record then E vs. t.

there is no initial and final potential in chronoamperometry.it would be better if you send the screenshot of your input parameter display of instrument. i will tell directly what to put where
u put -0.5V in all the three, i mean Einitial,low and high so that there woul be only one step.

Software does not allow to put all values same.
Initial and Final should be 0.001V apart.
So I tried with Initial -0.49 and final -0.5V.

As I see you have CHI instrument. Initial E is the potential that will be applied when electrochemical cell is connected to potentiostat by its internal relays. Then a quit time will pass before the High/Low potential will be applied. The other (Low/High) potential is in action when the number of steps is set to be >1. You can consider even more simple technique. It should have name something like "amperometric i-t curve", usually first in the list of methods
