Having the same problem - it was possible the last time I checked (pretty while ago) but the feature seems to have gone amiss during one of the last redesigns of the publication pages. Or do I simply not find the corresponding feature any more?
Yeh. I am facing the same problem. One of my papers has been cited by others.what should I do to fix this problem. I need to have it appeared in my citation count.
Yeah, that's true. I have also identified several theses and papers that have cited my articles, but its not included in the RG citation least. It would have been better if we can add this information.
Thank you for your answer. However, that is for self-citation. What about other's paper that has my paper cited but not shown (or incorrectly shown) in their reference? Are there any ways to make their references be fixed?
I have a similar experience to Zahra. The warning message comes up after I enter the DOI. Also it is strange that the DOI is asked for after the form is filled out, when it can be used to get the values in the form. In any case the manual entry fails.
I think the problem is the " DOI: code" if your articles did not have this code the RG could not link your citations. therefore you need to check DOI for all your articles first to get auto update citations. so I totally agree with Thomas Walker.
RG only reflect those citations which are on RG. If any one citing my paper and if he and his co-authors are not on RG, then it will not show that citation of you. Its Better.. Do not rely on RG for citations, only find researchers with similar interests and make collaborations with them. Or to discuss research problems.
I tried some of the things said above. But still didn't work.I believe I have exhausted the guideline materials offer online in this citation anomalies. Even though I have added papers that cited my work as "supplementary materials" and did "Remove from your profile", ResearchGate (RG) still doesn't update or show citations of my papers which are clearly shown in Google Scholar. I have added machine readable format of references and data as well but it's still not showing the citations. What can be done to rectify these anomalies? Further, if reprints of ones uploaded paper is not machine readable by RG bots or scanned copies of hard copy Journals what to do? In other words, if the reprints of paper uploaded in RG is not machine readable will it ever show any citations? If no, what are the solution, and methods?
It is not feasible to add citation manually on RG. It is quite not interesting that most of my citations by other researchers have not been added to my profile.
I don't know about how others feel. But, personally, I don't think RG scores are a reliable criterion of your research impacts. Google Scholar is more reliable, and accurate. There citation system seems to have a lot of issues. Just my opinion.
Three steps to add the missing self-citation into your ResearchGate (RG)
When you have a missing self-citation problem because there are no references with your publication or there is a less number of references in that publication (e.g., your references list in your article is 40 but appear 20 in RG, you need to do the following steps to solve this problem:
1) Go to your article that you want to add the references to it and remove the full-text from publication page (if you do not upload the article, skip this point)
2) Download the article (publisher’s version/PDF) from the publisher’s website.
3) Go to Add new researchàPublished research and upload your article (publisher’s version) as private file* (if your article is not open access) and as a public file (if your article is open access), you can check the copyright for any journal using this link
http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/index.php
When you done these steps, refresh the page or log out/in to see the changes (you will see that the number of references increases directly and your self-citation will appear in next 24-hour update).
You need to repeat these steps for each article separately.
as you can see from the site you linked, it's not a matter of open-acces or not when choosing a private RG copy.
In many copyrighted protected journal (some allow it), even the author of the paper does not have the right to archive in his/her own computer the publisher's version/PDF, unless he/she or his/her institution have a subscription.
But, also with a subscription, nobody has the right to archive a copy of a copyright-protected paper in a server of RG, that almost surely does not have a subscription for it, and so the right not only to read the paper but neither to save it (copyright = right to copy).
Finally, you can save on RG only open-acces papers, no matter if you choose a private or public copy.
Mistakenly, i have deleted few papers with higher citations. I updated all deleted papers on research gate but unable to get their citations on research gate account. Can any one help me to sort out this issue. I will be highly thankful.
Dear Muhammad Imran, delete those papers completely from RG and reupload them as new papers. Make sure u upload them sequentially as they were uploaded before. The whole citations will be retrieved after several minutes, days, or a week.
Dear Torsten, can one access that your article via any reference?. If yes, I have gone through your thesis but I couldn't see where you cited the article in the thesis. I didn't also see the reference in the thesis biography or lists of references. RG will only recognize appropriate citations that are properly listed in the lists of references.
ResearchGate (RG) should have option to add the missing citation manually, after verification, if the claim is found valid by RG, it should be added to the list.
WORKING SOLUTION: (warning! With some complications)
Why: Recently noted that one of my paper had 10 citations in RG however 17 in google scholar citation index. RG use to have manual way to add citations, however this is not available now. This is way around to solve that problem. As researchers citations are one the very important indicator of acceptance of our work in research community.
How:
This is solution to add paper which cited your work but not showing in RG by adding them in that paper's supplementary resources. I have added so far 7 citations and 5 already showing in the RG system of citations count.
Solution:
1) Double click the name of paper to which you want to add citations missing in GR (which are showing up in google scholar or another platform).
2) One trick to find if additional papers which have cited you in addition to RG, search in google scholar with name of your paper. (if you already have list skip this step). You can find the list by search with title of the paper in google scholar, it will show one result with no. of citations of that paper. Click on the citations button and you will find list of all papers which cited your work.
3) From google scholar on page which shows list of paper which have cited you, click on each paper name, and download it.
4) Drag the drop papers in dragbox
5) You can add name and full title of the papers you have downloaded and make sure they have cited your work.
6) Done - while you add supplementary material system will be scanning them to add in citation index of RG.
7) By default the paper you have added as supplementary material will be also listed in your publications so you have to "Remove from your profile" from Remove option on that paper. However, it will not reduce your citations of the papers. These are added since by default you are one of the authors of the supplementary material so by this step it will be solved.
8) For copyright issues, you have to remove these supplementary materials (papers which cited you) if permission is required and I am not sure if this will effect citation no. of a paper (still have to check it).
However there is small problem, that while adding authors names, your name will be added by default. This is bug which RG have to work it but problem looks solved. However you can remove other co-authors names from authors while adding original article authors of paper which cited you.
