For the purpose of AFM(atomic force microscopy), corrosion test & publication quality optical images. I really wanted to avoid those scratches in my optical or SEM images.
Right now, am doing polishing with 3000 Grit paper starting from 80 Grit. For final finish i use diamond paste of about 2 microns on a velvet cloth. Kindly suggest me some technique.
Hello! I would say that your scratches are caused by the initial 80 gritt paper sanding. Try to start with a finer paper and check it again! Using the diamond paste should give you a good finishing! Good luck!

Thank you for your answer. I guess you got me wrong. I start with 80 grit and then i use 220,400,600,800,1000,1500,2000 and end with 3000 grit sheets. Everytime i change the grit, i rotate the mount 90 degrees. (Traditional way of doing polishing). Later, i use diamond paste to get the final finish but still i couldn't achieve nm level surface finish.
When i do AFM(Atomic force microscopy) still i see lots of scratches.

I understood. My suggestion is to start with 220 for example, because the 80 Grit could leave huge scratches. If I read or find any other idea I let you know! Good luck!
Thank you for your answer Mr. Mateus. Actually, I couldn't do that because after surface modification it leaves big marks on sample. To remove them, I need to use 80 Grit initially.
