I mean whether the architectural history can only inspire the designers of contemporary world for sustainable development or it may contribute more than that. I want to continue my research(Paper attached) in the field of sustainability. Can somebody suggest how can I proceed this research area?
I agreed with Cecilia. There are many prospects that we can look into the sustainable architecture not only limiting the concept of saving energy. When we are hassling and tussling for energy saving in order to develop a sustainable architecture, we are loosing the social, cultural aspects of it..
some simple examples, in Hong Kong, or in a large area of cooling-dominant sub-tropical region, the traditional house was designed to be lightweight, with good natural ventilation. in high latitude area of north hemisphere, traditional buildings are mostly north-south orientation. the eskimos even use ice for building. all of these designs have a long history, and all these designs are for some reasons. either for insulation or solar radiation,which is good for reducing heating/cooling energy.

I agree with Cecilia and Sabina that cultural and social sustainability should not be ignored while considering the environmental aspects of sustainability and it becomes more significant in case of architecture. Because architecture is not mere technological act but it is socio-cultural phenomenon too. Yu Hang has given a good example in relation to Hong Kong and these kinds of examples are spread throughout the world embedded in the history of each nation.
