By using the same solid waste for AC preparation by KOH as an activator at different concentrations, we found two different natures of adsorption - physical for one case ( lower KOH concentration) and chemical for the second case ( higher KOH concentration)
KOH activation is mostly a chemical to create a more porous surface. In the case of more concentrated KOH probably you are creating more functional groups that are causing stronger binding. I suggest doing a simple FTIR analysis of the AC after activation with both, low-concentration and high-concentration KOH. Doing this will help to see if chemical functionalization is happening in the case of high-concentration KOH. I hope this helps

try also to have information on your solid waste in term of composition and establish the influence of KOH acitvating agent on such material. more so, how did you analyse the nature of adsorption ? without doing caracterisation and what are the type pollutant use for the 2 AC use ? is it organic or inorganic contaminant?
