In order that the organizations should flourish, the relations should be properly understood. One can be a boss today and in the next tenure, the subordinate could be the boss. How the boss should maintain relations with subordinates?
Good question. In modern economy, the bossing is vanishing. The boss (may be the team leader/manager/director) need to be friendly, but remain goal oriented. He has to make the subordinated realize the importance of achieving the mission goal. But for govt sector it may not work.@ pisipaty
To me, the three most important characteristics of any boss/manager/ leader are:
- Honesty - he/she acts ethically correct and communicatees openly;
- Consistency - he/she acts in a predictable manner every day; and
- Fairness - he/she treats every subordinate fairly and equally.
I believe the concept of a boss is now becoming less relevant. Teams are led by leaders in this world of millennials and digitization. And leaders need to always keep an open mind, be transparent and display courage.
BOSS should be good listener, open minded, problem solver & respect to sub ordinate, Boss have to be manage high demand with current sub ordinate capability and more important is BOSS have to create successor in his team, guide them to make it leader in the future.

Sir, your question is very valid. However, the behavioral aspects of a Boss can't be generalized for all working environment nowadays. In my opinion the word 'Boss' is getting transformed into the 'Leader'. And thus the whole concept and perception about authority (Boss/Leader) getting changed. Since, We are more aware about the difference of characteristics between Boss & Leader, so I will not discuss this point. Few things which I would like to bring out here about the authority or the appointment who has to maintain the relationship with subordinates or team members:
1. "Prime Vision, objectives or the goals of the organisation should not be compromised". Keeping this into mind we should now think about how an authority should establish relationship with subordinates. Here, he should establish two aspects of relationship with his subordinates. First is 'Professional Relationship' and Second 'Personal/Behavioral Relationship'.
2. In professional relationship, one thing is common i.e. Profession. For no matters whatsoever, professional aspects should always be respected, honoured, rewarded, incouraged and recognised. It should be nurtured and inculcated not only in subordinates but self too. A strong communication skills to influence subordinates are high at demand. Language no matters be anything but his ideas and opinions should be influencing. He should be actually innovative or positive all the time. His attitude matters alot. Subordinates should not feel the excessive load or work pressure at their level of expertise, rather they should always be motivated, happy, energetic with high degree of drive and determination. He should always be ready to accept the challenges and failures too. Just have one thing in mind that "Success is for team and Failure is for Self". Ego and other negative traits should always keep a side when it is the matter of organisation. Giving credit to the right ones in all forums are always welcomed. Then only his subordinates feel confidence and preform beyond exception. But for all these the selection or identification of such personality has to be unbiased, transparent and organisation's growth oriented.
3. In personal or behavioral aspects, he should establish a relationship like his own family members, understanding their problems, supporting in all their odd times, standing like a savior, sharing happiness and ready to accept their failures or mistakes. Without this they may not know what is the taste success or correct things! Pat for all good works and tap for any out of bounds or wrong works, found to be the justified behaviour.
3. We should not be generalising any sector specific authority's traits until we are in their shoes. today's due to high population and ever changing customer demands in all sectors, the problems, challenges and work pressure are more. Since, the Growth of an organisation also depends on the basis of human resources, so It's all about the team or members where they want to lead their organisation.
I believe both Top to Down Management approach and vice-versa (as per level and applicability) should be adopted for the growth of any organisation.

Firstly, participatory leading is important. The boss should consult his/her surbordinates in decision making so that he gets their feelings before it is implemented. Secondly he must always be there for his surbordinates, listen to them and guide accordingly.....
An all pervasive answer would be that the boss should behave with his subordinates as he would like HIS boss to behave with him.
Going further, BOSS and Subordinate should now get outdated but that is not being seen. In fact all are associates.
The senior should act like a:

When you talk of a boss, it gives me the picture of a headless, inconsiderate and ruthless individual who commands people around without caring about their feelings. Things are done his or her way regardless of circumstances.
Todays corporate organizations are ran by leaders whose primary duty is the welfare of the employees, as the most important assets in the organization.
Such a leader has strong ethics, and carries himself with honesty and integrity.
He creates a free (democratic) environment where employees feel free to contribute their ideas, and feel that every opinions counts. A leader should never sit on top of people, controlling them, nor suffocating them under his armpits, but have solid growth plan for his people.
A leader should be a good communicator who articulates the company policies nd vision with passion, and magnet of talent who energizes the people to achieve beyond expectations.
That leader must have empathy to accommodate thoughts and feelings of other people, and humble enough to talk to anybody from any level in the organization, including one-on-one talks

Within contemporary organisations, it is more appropriate to highlight collaborative and cooperative work relationships that foster a climate of trust, well-being, mutual benefit and engagement so as to help achieve individual, group and organisational objectives. In some places as observed, becoming the boss for even a small, the person is treating as achieved high cadre or position of commanding nature. In this context, Boss is not a permanent cadre or a post. Boss should be like a leader, well wisher, a guide and should support colleagues. Then only there will be a good team work which helps to give good working and healthy environment.
As rightly said, there is no boss in this scenario. One who knows better, can guide amicably, safe gaurd the respect, protect the interest of subordinates could be the team leader.
One can take boss to be the leader or guide who has vast experience in performing and doing things. A boss should know which things will be done by which person and allocate things to that person in such a way that subordinates does things easily with comfort and interest without feeling burden and should give tips as and when needed and should be available and accessible at any time when wanted.
I think it is as simple as "Treat people the way you want to be treated", Everyone deserves respect.
Boss or head of the team should be in a position to understand the difficulties of subordinates, act accordingly with politeness, try to capture the worth of each individual and should understand keeping in mind that no person is inferior or superior to others.
