I found in the literature that Tannin acts as inhibitor for ammonia oxidizing bacteria in wastewater treatment. In other words, nitrification process in wastewater treatment would be slower if Tannin is present in this wastewater. Any one can help me to to understand why or how?

I know the role of tannins in other fields, related to the reduction of other GHG, but I have not read anything like this.

This book is for engineers, that is why it lacks for the biological point of view. thank you for your kind reply.
Tannins are naturally produced plant polyphenols, which will react with proteins and cause their precipitation. The toxicity of tannin is quite broad spectrum, so not only for ammonia oxidising organisms.
