This is one of the most prominent operational activities that are sensitive to the global business related to the Muslim world. It only come to the main concern to the business circle actively less than 10 years ago in Europe but only in 5 years recently in Muslim countries logistics hubs. However, the questions of halal commitment of the stringent guidelines are always the focus by the Muslims world towards the acceptance in these activities by their counterparts, the non-Muslim countries. How could it be so sure that the stringent commitment of halal guidelines are being followed strictly, right from the purchase of the halal goods till its supply to the customers destinations?
You are talking about a market of 2.5 billion geographically spread all over the globe. This should settle the acceptability issue to some extent, though there will always issues specific to industry and pressures from within the society. ......... Kosher supply chains and logistics should be a good starting point for you to explore more into sustainability. Having said this, Denmark is the biggest supplier of dairy products to the middle east and they do follow the 'stringent' halal guidelines, so does Australia for meat ....
This is good opportunity for researchers, practitioners and the industry. With the emergence of Global suppliers and consumers, Halal Supply Chains are now coming up in big way. No doubt these standards are sustainable, healthier and add value to the product.
First we should develop proper processes that help in meeting these standards. then, understands the critical success factors and develop a business model. industry supported research is required.
The Arab world is major importers of such products, and with awareness the market is growing to other continents.
Both Halal and Kosher certificates are important for the companies which want to offer their products to the countries where this certificates matter. We have Kosher certificate for some of our products and we are also asking our partners in our supply chain to have the also. By having certificates like this and issued by the governing body we have to believe and trust our partners that they do their work in accordane with them.So I presume that the same is for Halal certificate as it is for Kosher. My company is also investigating how to get Halal certified in near future

Good Morning Adam: You have asked a very important and significant question that intrigues me. Having travelled the world over the past 50 years working in logistics and supply chains and came to appreciate the amount of diversity that exists throughout the world. I never had the opportunity to be exposed to the Halal Supply Chain since my focus was mainly industrial equipment which had none of the stringent requirements that apply to food and other consumer products. Your question is the first time I have had a label applied to a Muslim Supply Chain. You have greatly expanded my global supply chain knowledge for which I thank you. I was aware of the cultural differences existing between different belief systems, but was not familiar with the cultural differences for the Muslim population. As Abrar Haider pointed out, there are 2.5 billion Muslims and that is a significant percentage of the population. I will make the effort to become familiar with the Halal system, because the world is shrinking and the population is growing. Good morning to you too Kenneth. A very significant thoughts and very encouraging response for people like you. As very experience person in logistics and supply chain industries, I believe your motivation to learn more about what our global hub currently is practicing would contribute more towards the studies. I put up the question on Halal or Kosher Logistics ans Sully Chain because of its growing influence in our global business nowadays. I foresee there are not only influence the economics growth of the countries but the systems and how it is to be applied would be a considerable influence. No doubt that the many years Swiss company , Lever Brothers, are dominating the halal foods supply with the dairies and chocolates manufacturing before embarking into other food processing products in Asia when they set the factories there. Malaysia was then the main center for the halal export products. Infact, Malaysia too could be considered as the first country that set halal food certifications in the world and set the precedent of having the certificate to be issued before the products are considered halal. All this due to the sensitivity of the population in the country that have diverse diversity with different background of races and religions. Malaysia is still strong and main advocate to such procedure and later followed by many countries in Asia. Therefore since 2006, the studies and ideas on how the halal logistics are being practice and implemented are clearly directed towards the handling and certification of their activities. No doubt country such as Holland had engaged earlier on the halal hub but the process on how it is conducted and scrutinized are still being looked into as compared in Malaysia. No doubt its still new to Malaysia but it just like 'old people wearing the new cloths'. There are lot to improve and to convince others how the activities must be monitored and controlled as according to the Islamic Shariah laws. Currently, I'm applying for the research grant in Islamic Supply Chain Model and hope for greater contribution.
