I have seen works in which authors do not describe how they have determined the specimens. Systematics seems to be a discipline totally abandoned in the local environment of my Country. What happens in your academy?
Where and how specimens should be kept (skin, skull, diagnostic characters such as teeth). Only virtual? Photographs only? What is the most appropriate way?

At the Oglala Lakota College Repository and Archive we had a necropsy lab with an ultraviolet light decontaminator: https://www.laboratoryequipment.com/article/2015/08/ultraviolet-light-disinfection We routinely worked with rodents known to carry hanta virus as well as bubonic plague. We prepared study skins as well as tissue samples and endo/ectoparasites in ethanol.
