I'm using ETABS v.17.
I want to introduce a diagonal strut between columns to represent masonry infills in an RC frame structure according to the Equivalent Strut Model.
Under section properties I have the option to define
a. link/ support properties
b. frame/wall hinge properties
Which one do I choose?
Choosing frame/wall hinge, I am asked to define material (steel/concrete/user) and on picking steel I'm further asked the hinge type where I'm given a lot of options to select from.
Thanks in advance for any guidance in this matter.

You can define the strut as a frame element and apply moment releases at its ends. Since you are adopting a lumped plasticity approach, you will have to define the properties of the hinge (say, located at the centre of the strut) to simulate inelastic behaviour.

Hello Maisha Salam , I prefer to use links because you can directly define the properties you need at the ends or in the center or for the shear. Also in the case of dynamic analysis, the links are the most appropriate because they can represent hysterical effects such as the Bauschinger effect. I would use hinges when I need to know about the behavior and design this strut element.

First define in frame element property the strut you want to use. Then, assign end releases.

I believe you cannot assign hinges in masonry wall struts because such elements are normally unreinforced hence brittle. Struts cannot reach a plastic stage
