Oxymetazoline, a topical nasal decongestant, when used for long time, is known to cause rhinitis medicamentosa. We watch advertisements of certain brands of this nasal drops/spray on media. How right is this advertisement? Won't it cause misuse of this drug, causing more harm on long run when used irrationally for indications not justified?
The advertisements of any drug should be for physicians in the hospital or in his private clinic only. The advertisement on television or other media is dangerous and can cause more harm than benefits besides run the risk of dependency
Dear Vadish, Such advertisement is absolutely dangerous. Instead of an awareness programme, The Government is misleading the citizens. I believe, none of drugs should be allowed to promoted in public. Thank You.
Thank you Nelson Elias and Ashok Rai.. I agree with your views in this aspect.. These advertisements do not provide the adverse side effects, and do not give any type of warnings regarding the use.. I still cannot believe how the legislation can permit such advertisements in public media, when the consumer protection act expect the physician to provide even rarest possible complications of a drug when prescribing.. I wonder such advertisements are safe in any form.. Thank you
