How PVPP work in DNA purification step of Humic acid removal?

I am planning to extract the DNA from sediment sample. Sample has high chance of Humic acid. Need to try various way to remove it as it is PCR inhibiting factor. Found the use of PVPP for that, but can not understand the role.?
