It seems that these are different areas of inhomogeneous sample. Photo 1 and 2 can be seen the layered crystals, probably the material has a layered structure. The picture 4 shows one-dimensional crystals like whiskers. Such objects are observed for the materials forming the one-dimensional crystals. The cross section of the one-dimensional crystals around a square. This means that their structure is described most likely in the tetragonal system.

General view of the surface suggests that it is formed in the process of melting or chemical reaction, but not by pressing. The picture 3 shows that the phase is layered on the sample surface, and the deeper the phase of the one-dimensional crystals. Probably the surface of the sample subjected to modifications.

These are Selenium based Ag doped Chalcogenide glasses, the SEM characterization is done for bulk form of the materials...

Dear Sir,

SEM gives the surface image of the sample. First , you grind and polish your sample. Then go for SEM.It can reduce the surface roughness.What type of analysis do u need from SEM? 

On the surface (photo 1) is clearly observed terraces, which can not be attributed to the glass. When cleaved glass terraces are also possible, however, they are fragments of a circle, while at photo 1 clearly visible terraces with straight sections, conjugate at a right angle. In the lower left corner it is clear that these terraces are formed by a stack of layered crystals. In the system In-Se phase In2Se3  has a suitable structure. In the picture 3 and 4 shows that there are whisker-like crystals having a substantially square cross-section under a layer of layered crystals. This is probably AgInSe2 crystals having the structure of chalcopyrit (tetragonal syngonia). Note that both phases - In2Se3 AgInSe2 and are in equilibrium with elemental selenium. Therefore, the glassy phase may be a selenium alloy with dissolved silver and indium.

The pores between the crystals at surface are absent. On the same samples obtained by pressing or chemical vapor deposition the pores are always present. Therefore your sample or obtained by melting or is a mixture of crystal and liquid (glass) phase. On the presence on the surface of the glassy phase show cracks visible on the photo 3. They are characteristic for the glass, becouse the fragments into which the surface cracks do not show the crystal cut.
