Can anybody tell me what is the ration of number of publications between science and social science discipline? I see that the number of publications of science academics are significantly higher than that of social science. I am not much clear why? In my country I see most of the top social science researchers don't have publications more than 15. While, there are number of science faculties who have more than 100 publications. Does it mean, the opportunities on building research career are higher for science graduate?
Well that's so in our country too. I see science scholars CVs with 200 plus publication and social sciences scholars with a few. The reasons can be the difference in the nature of research, research culture of a country and subject, competition. If you note scientific research is experiment based with small write ups usually whereas social sciences papers are lengthy generally.
No Ayesha, I feel, number of publications by Social science research area is more than scientific research area. In India, there are many science and social research journals with good impact factor and index. the question is more or less. but I opine that Social research paper has a broad area while science research paper is limited either extension previous invention or continuation of the existence. Social research area discovers new areas and new lights on the existing areas with different perspective.

Well! Mohana, I see the number of hi-index ISI/ISSI or masters journal publications is substantially higher of science and engineering background scientists than the social scientists. Specially, medical researches have much higher impact factor. Your explanation on continuation of existing research is right as far I have known from other researchers. Social scientists can also make continuation of their existing researches, still need lot of new perspectives. Otherwise, they will fall in plagiarism. My masters supervisor claims that language is also a barrier for social scientists. In science research, maintaining standard of English is easy. On the other hand, many local social scientists face difficulties to express their justifications, arguments in English, which are much necessary for social science researches; that's why they cannot make their researches for global acceptance. Another factor, I think, is data availability. Scientists can procure their research data from their lab. But, social scientists have to collect data from field which involves time and cost. Secondary data is not accessible for every cases, especially in developing countries, bureaucratic complexity and poor quality data as well as data in poor format is a widespread phenomenon.
