I have been under the impression a Kozak is just GCCACC preceding the start codon, but just learned it also includes a G just after the start codon, i.e. GCCACC ATG G. If I am encoding a peptide that does not start with a G just after the start codon, will it still translate efficiently? The peptide has a threonine after the methionine so I can't just change it to a codon that starts with a G.
