This is very good question Stephen. The online learning remains to be an area that has great potential to create best possible learning experience for any student online via Internet. However, it is also most challenging to create the blackboard environment that would replace a real on campus in-class teaching experience. Answer to your question may be subject to number of students, Internet accessibility and technology friendly/easy interface.
Online learning is the answer to physical and non-physical obstacles such as distance and time. It still has vast potentials to develop to be able to offer better learning experiences, even though it cannot replace the roles of conventional way of learning.
There is no limitation to Online learning in term of knowledge contents or structuring. However, all the domains of learning must be thoroughly considered while considering the concept of Online learning restructuring. These domains include; Affective (Existentialists), psycho-motor(Pragmatists) and cognitive(Idealists). As emphasized by Plato and his oldest school of thought called Idealism which classified metaphysical nature of man into body and soul but priority should be given to human soul, brain and mind. So, the spiritual life of human should be considered while restructuring learning content because after death, the body is a waste but soul remain relevant to human faith. To Aristotle and its school of though called Realism human body is important, so, while restructuring online learning contents Physical development of learners should be considered paramount. Also, John Dewey and his school of Pragmatism which is talking about experience which could be acquired through interactions with online environment. This is because the experience helps to improve the intelligence and intelligence is needed in solving social problems. So, in restructuring online learning pragmatism viewed should be considered important. Finally, the existentialism school of thought should not be sidelined because human greatness and future ambition started from human feeling to thinking and finally to acting. Good and bad action is a construct of human feeling and thinking which finally manifest in his actions.

My response is not to offer an answer but rather to suggest that questions like the one you pose need to be answered not on the basis of individuals simply offering their own personal opinions/beliefs about the matter but by undertaking empirical research that is designed to answer clear research questions.
