and infectious diseases .Infectious diseases such as  

malaria, dengue fever, and cholera are well known as climate

sensitive. disease  such as malaria is transmitted by

mosquitoes which multiply in the warming weather.

Such diseases are expected to aggravated in a warm environment.

In 2001 the UK Department of Health published a report, Health Effects of Climate Change in the UK. The report was available online. A summary table is available in Google books. ( Climate Change: Causes, Effects, and Solutions, John T. Hardy, page 182.0

The report predicted the effect on disease would be small but the excess in avoidance of death from the cold compared to death from heat would be about 17,000 (20,000 minus 2,000). None of the other factors appear to have sufficient impact to overcome this positive outcome.

Not many years ago the Lancet published a paper that discounted the effect of climate on malaria. The point the paper made was that malaria was once prevalent in Europe, including the UK. (Oliver Cromwell died from malaria.) It was at one time prevalent in parts of Siberia.

I contracted malaria in Oman and in Malawi. But during the last 39 years I have lived and worked in four countries of Southeast Asia and four countries of South Asia, do not take malaria prophylactics, and have never contracted malaria in SE Asia.

The Lancet paper pointed out that climate has not been the main factor in reducing and eliminating malaria in parts of the tropics. As with other diseases, technology combined with environmental management has been the main factor, including economic development made possible by plentiful cheap fossil fuels.

The question should be posed as, What are the excess deaths related to cold over the deaths related to heat?

A paper in Lancet Planet studied this question among others.

However, although the paper did use data from 451 locations worldwide, the authors admitted that,

" The geographical distribution and average mean temperature of the 451 locations shows the wide range of regions of the world included in this assessment and characterised by different climatic conditions, from cold places in North America and northern Europe to tropical areas in South America and southeast Asia (figure 1). However, entire regions of the world, such as Africa and the Middle East, are not represented."

Further, the projections were based on models that so far have greatly overestimated actual global warming.

For the UK in a recent year the estimated deaths from winter cold were 20,000 and the estimated deaths from summer heat were 2,800. The excess deaths from cold were greater than the deaths from air pollution.

Science daily on May 20, 2015 quoted the same lead author as saying in regard to an earlier paper that used the same or similar data,

"It's often assumed that extreme weather causes the majority of deaths, with most previous research focusing on the effects of extreme heat waves,...Our findings, from an analysis of the largest dataset of temperature-related deaths ever collected, show that the majority of these deaths actually happen on moderately hot and cold days, with most deaths caused by moderately cold temperatures."

Science daily stated that Antonio Gasparrini and his team showed that "...cold weather kills 20 times as many people as hot weather, according to an international study analyzing over 74 million deaths in 384 locations across 13 countries".

So with the models we get a different result in the future than we get if we look at the actual data. The words tell us why, "scenarios" can be structured to give any result desired. So can "projections".

However, neither scenarios nor projections actually claim to predict the future. scenarios and projections are tainted by political biases.

Certainly more than current. In addition to poorer conditions in certain areas which will ultimately lead to higher probability of disease, there is mounting evidence that the thawing of the permafrost layer will release pre-ice age diseases. Moreover, a changing climate may result in the evolution of such diseases that challenge our bodies more so than the current types of diseases out there.
