Automotive applications - conventional and advanced high strength strip grades - considering current usage and projected future usage (to determine grades of future interest).
installed capacities worldwide - some figures on this topic:
thin slab technology about 90 million tons/year..this is about 10% of conventional thick slab technology.installed
strip casting installed about 0.5 million tons per year...
in other words 90% results from conventional technology , 10% from thin slab techn and 0.1% fron strip casting...as a First estimation...
in practice I am sure that rhin slab and strip techn currently will not produce same rate of automotive grades with their Lines.
If you check worldwide automotive production per year and multiply by 0,700 tons steel per vehicle you will get an absolute figure for required automotive sheet production in terms of mass.
This figure divided by about 900 Mio. tons give you the automotive rate ffrom overall flat stell production.
and NUCOR from USA is company specialized in applying thin slab and strip cast technology on commercial base..check their website.
