This is one paper that provides the the classical FHD formula ( -∑ pi loge pi) and recommends using proportion of horizontal vegetation
(http://www.isprs.org/proceedings/XXXVI/8-W2/HASHIMOTO.pdf).
Others recommend using the Shannon index
(https://www.researchgate.net/publication/222230782_The_use_of_airborne_lidar_to_assess_avian_species_diversity_density_and_occurrence_in_a_pineaspen_forest).
I am confused as to which approach to use. Further I have height percentiles (from LasTools). Is there any way of using these to calculate FHD?
