Quantitative research is used widely in science, biomedical sciences, medical sciences, physics, mathematics, astrology, veterinary, zoology, botany and many other fields. However, qualitative research is not that old and is limited to studies mainly in psychology, social sciences, and education. The number of journals covering quantitative methods/research is far more extensive compared to those covering qualitative research. Also, the number of researchers committed to quantitive research are far more extensive than those specialised in qualitative research. I hope that this gives you an idea about the differences and hence research coverage.
I also would like to add, look at the number of journals publishing articles in psychology, education, and social sciences and those publishing quantitative research and list in the Web of Science database. This comparison will give you more concrete figures about the differences.
