I would like to add to above, that we in my country (Iraq) follow the approach that the college or university is committed to taking out the theses. There are usually three chapters, the results with the conclusions in one chapter, which is the final chapter.

Between 4 to 6 according to the requirements of the subject under investigation.

Certainly, there is no specific number of dissertation chapters. It depends on your recent scientific contribution ( articles). In fact we have common chapters ( INTRODUCTION-1, LITERATURE REVIEW-2 AND METHODOLOGIES-3). Other than these you may add two or three more chapters.
In general, 5 chapters
1- introduction
2- lecture review
3- materials and methods
4- results and discussion
5- Conclusions and recommendations
At least 4 and possible to be more up to 6 depending on the nature and details of the subject and specialty (scientific, literary or religious).
