The ranking of, what I would like to call, indexing services is depending on numerous factors (discipline, international recognition, preference of usage, etc., etc.). My attempt would be:
1. Web of Science https://mjl.clarivate.com/homeJournals indexed in SCIE/SSCI assigned an impact factor. Most stringent criteria and globally recognized indexing service.
2. Scopus https://www.scopus.com/sources.uri?zone=TopNavBar&origin=searchbasic Journals with CiteScore. Elsevier’s attempt to compete with Clarivate. Well-established over the years, but not flawless when it comes to predatory journals and hijacked journals (‘polluting’ the database). *
3. Web of Science https://mjl.clarivate.com/home Journals indexed in ESCI eligible for impact factor and are nowadays assigned a Journal Citation Indicator (JCI).
4. Norwegian Scientific Index https://dbh.nsd.uib.no/publiseringskanaler/Forside?request_locale=en assigns a level to publishers and journals between X, 0, 1 and 2 (see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRIStin). Increasingly important but not recognized (yet) globally.
5. ABCD Journal Quality List https://abdc.edu.au/research/abdc-journal-quality-list/ ‘limited’ to business and economics related disciplines. One ‘drawback’ it is not updated for quite some time.
6. NAAS Score http://naasindia.org/ ‘limited’ to Agricultural Sciences. Relies highly on Clarivate’s impact factor.
7. DHET https://www.dhet.gov.za/ List accredited South African published journals (for most recent list see https://libguides.wits.ac.za/c.php?g=145334&p=953152 )
8. ERA https://guides.library.unisa.edu.au/publishing/ERA Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) and I quote “aims to identify and promote excellence across the full spectrum of research activity, including discovery, experimental and applied research within Australian higher education institutions.”.
Best regards.
PS. Be aware of fake impact factors. The only company that assigns the official ‘impact factor’ is Clarivate (for journals indexed in SCIE or SSCI this you can check here: https://mjl.clarivate.com/home).
A notorious fake one is CiteFactor (same is true for GIF, SJIF). This is an example of a so-called misleading metrics (https://beallslist.net/misleading-metrics/) often used by predatory journals. ISI (international Scientific Indexing (ISI)) is another notorious fake one.
