Currently, LTE is being deployed all over the globe, Verizon and AT&T are massively deploying LTE network in the USA. However, LTE or its evolution LTE-A requires a voice supporting network. When or how long will it take for LTE to start supporting both data and voice, will it be possible?
Truly expansion plans geared to cover rural, unserved rural areas is a challenge requiring time-intensive /CAPEX-intensive strategies. Just for historical comparisons, in my country the national cell deployment plan peaked less than 100 radiobases a year in 1994-95 (~1 RB every 2 working days, good weather)
Deployment of LTE-A will be started by 2013 / 2014 initially supporting data services using huge amount of femtocells. The idea is to start small and resolve issues in the beginning of the implementation. There are two new things coming up with LTE-A - one is carrier aggregation(use of same frequency by different carriers) and MIMO (it is present in LTE as well but now it will have 4 x 4 antennae for IO streams). Also, there are other barriers related to frequency which will be overcome as and when required.
LET, is the step towards 4G mobile network. It can support both voice and data at the same time. But nowadays, researchers are looking for the best way of integration the new comm. technology with LTE. One of those technologies are MIMO, Femtocell,...

Saied, Thavamaran - LTE already has MIMO and Femtocells. LTE-A will have more number of MIMOs and Femtocells. Carrier aggregation is coming up for LTE Advanced. I just have this idea because only last week I gave presentation on 4G LTE & LTE-Advanced which required lot of research. As you know, they are very huge topics. At ASU, they have femtocells in the pine-trees :-) Also, a big concern is Intercell interference.
the way i see this, LTE is packet oriented network. and is designed to carry voice over packets, i.e using VoIP and another variant VoLGA. so if you are using voice in place of circuit switched data then I'll say I don't see need of CS in LTE and packet data is fast and reliable enough to accommodate realtime data like voice and live video. so LTE actually supports voice but on packet switched carrier service of course. we are making it work in labs and in field also
IP network is based on packet switched network. PS network has theory that payload Service Data Units into(SDU) will be cut into PDU(Packet Data Units) which independent of each other routed to destination.
i think, the key word in this question is IMS

As we know an LTE network is an all-IP packet switched network. Hence it is obviously possible to use Voice over IP(VoIP). But the problem with VOIP as we have probably experienced it with different VOIP applications is the quality of the voice is poor since we are using packet-switched network for voice. GSM and WCDMA use circuit switching for voice. A new way in LTE networks is to use what is known as Voice over LTE which adds QoS measures on top of VoIP giving us a very high quality voice. That would hopefully be implemented in the coming couple of years

Voice is realised in the form of VoLTE in LTE. Which needs IMS Core as the anchor for voice services. Whether it is LTE/LTE-A/LTE-C ( C is the latest development), VoLTE architecture remains same.
The support for Voice is provided since LTE deployment (even before also) with the help of IMS Core.
Operators who were not ready to deploy IMS , took the VoLTE-CSFB route to offload the Voice/SMS calls over existing legacy CS Networks.
