Hi everyone, recently it has been reported that antibiotics at sub-inhibitory concentrations can induce the formation of biofilm by bacteria. Is anybody familiar with how fast can this induction be initiated (i.e. how long does it take from the start of incubation with compound to the first sighting of biofilm under SEM)?

In our laboratory we are producing Aeromonas hydrophila biofilm. A. hydrophila biofilm was prepared according to Azad et al. [1997].
Conical flask containing TSB (0.225% w/v) and chitin flakes (0.3% w/
v) was autoclaved at 121 OC for 15 min and cooled to room temperature. The medium was inoculated with A. hydrophila culture and agitated for 6 h daily in an incubator mechanical shaker (120 strokes/min) at room temperature. On the fourth day, the supernatant was decanted and the chitin flakes were washed thrice in the same flask with sterile phosphate buffer saline (PBS, pH 7.2) to remove free cells. The biofilm cell were enumerated to be 1010 CFU/g chitin.

Hi, I work with pathogenic strains of E.coli. They form matured biofilm within 2 days under shaking condition (120 rpm). Very much visible under SEM.
