We basically did an extraction in a plant using water as solvent with the use of decoction method, the extract is currently in a pulvurized form and is stored in glass vials. I wanna asked how long does it last without its property/qualities degraded
In my humble opinion, the most general answer to the question is related to its storage conditions and specific physical, chemical characteristics of aqueous extract produced. Other cases must be checked along with the relevant details.
any water extract if you do not evaporate than only 12 hrs. I have personally experienced many times that fungus attack on next day. if you have dried water extract then it is possible that shelf life might increase.
It depends on type of solvents or compounds you are interested. Some compound is more sensitive than others. You can store water extract for 3-4 month at -20 degree in freezer but you should evaporate the solvent from it.
Since you have mentioned that the sample is presently in a 'pulverized' or powdered form, in my opinion, it should be able to live up to a few months. However, you may try utilizing this storage period to assess the biochemical or microbiological activity (whichever is more applicable to your research purpose) of the extract as a function of storage period.
