The powdered crude plant extract could be stored at 4'C for how long? Could this be for 5-10 years? Are they any special precautions that I should be aware of in storing the extract?
I shall give an answer based on our experience in the chemistry department. The administration ordered us to present a scientific exhibition for the public every 3 years. The Soxhlet extraction was always displayed since 1993. We did extracts from mint, thyme, anise seeds, cloves...etc. We usually find the previous extracts unsuitable after 3 years of ordinary storage (e.g. change in color, diminishing odors) so we have to prepare fresh samples.

Very interesting post. How long were you able to store these spices extracts without physico-chemical quality deterioration? What do you mean by ordinary storage?-Under ambient conditions? In what kind of containers? Some of the essential oils have short shelf lives under ambient conditions, but when stored under refrigeration their shelf lives can be extended.
