There are benefit in citations and some good suggestions to make the paper more impressive and informative.

Drawback: There are chances of while submitting the original paper for publication, the publisher's plagiarism finding software may detect your original paper is a plagiarized version of paper on RG

The upload type "preprint" doesn't allow any changes or corrections of the text, or deleting additional uploaded data, in such case you have to take away the whole file.

The benefits are clear. There os always the chance tbst someone will "steal" you paper or idea. But there is also another risk. Numerous journsls do not take for publishing articles that were shown or presented publicly before.

Some Journals do not give the rights of upload your paper on RG but you can upload the draft version or 1st submission version of your paper.
