The EARLY voltage is a definition rather than a real existing and measurable quantity. It can be found using the slope of the output chracteristics Ic=f(Vce). Here, we have two alternatives: Ib=const or Vbe=const.
Question 1: Which of these two alternatives can be used to find the EARLY voltage?
(a) Ib=const, or
(b) Vbe=const., or
(c) both?
Background: Some books use definition (a), some others use (b) and some do even not mention if (a) or (b). According to some simulation results, it seems that case (c) is correct (it does not matter if Ib or Vbe is held constant).
Question 2: If (c) is correct - how can we theoretically proof that both alternatives give us the correct EARLY voltage?
