I think to answer the question you have to look at it the other way, how effective are various pump with various gasses. If the pump is poor at moving a gas it will be the last thing left behind. The vast majority of pump manual have pump speeds for various gases, here are a few for a:

Turbo pump (pg 14)

TSP work fastest with O2 followed by other reactive gasses and poorly with inert gasses like argon.

Rough pumps tend to work the same with all gases with the exception of those that can condense, most notably water, with which they pump slower.

It would be great to have an additional information about the behaviour of these pumps with pumping of molecules like H2O and CO2 and others present in air.
