Dear Sir, no matter how massive or what type of ONLINE course you do ---- please check its validity of recognition for yourself in your country for the acceptance part of your employment. Even some real regular courses in some country as per normal done in the same country is not accepted for the evaluation of employment because that institution would have not yet got the recognition from their concerned government--- so please check every aspect of the purpose of your ONLINE education is VALID for employment. Hi Ankur.

As on date, you can explore the MOOC s for your knowledge enhancement, so that it will help you in future. (some courses in new areas and some course to improve your core domain knowledge).

Further, MOOC certificate may not have that much value in India, but knowledge surely has.

If you are planning to go abroad for higher studies (PhD) or may be employment, then certificates will matter along with the knowledge.

There are some MOOCs which have moved into the realm of offering certificates with the potential offer of providing/recommending credits in an established program of study. These are very few and as Harsh and Tajudeen stated you should do your own investigation before you enrol.

On another note - there does seem to be a movement towards giving credit to some MOOC offerings thus providing some value potentially to employers. Also, as an academic, designing and implementing a MOOC I think is a valuable experience which should not work against your abilities in your own profession.
