While teaching my students, I have to explain them the contributions of great names like Jagdish Bhagwati, Amartya Sen, Mary Parker Follet, Henry Fayol etc. The student then finds it easier to catch the concepts. So I was thinking of writing articles for the students about such great names. Is it a good decision? I am asking this question because I have seen that history of business and commerce is not taken very seriously in a university curriculum. Also articles written on such names are not taken very seriously by the research community. Please help me.
Perhaps the great figures who contributed to the discipline should be highlighted, but also taking into account the values, if they had them, that make this a better world.
Anamitra teaching students the founding sources of a collective body of knowledge in the scientific disciplines they are studying is part of a crucial step towards knowledge building and potential further expansion. In so doing it is equally important to develop the critical appreciation and the development of such crucial and founding body of science. Important stuff.
I agree with John Mendy . Moreover, In the academic field nurturing, transmitting the contributions and ideas of the researchers from the various disciplines can instill meaningful insights among the learners and motivate them for contributing new ideas in the future. At the same time acknowledging the contributions of the researchers can act as catalyst for keeping up their good work as a part research community as well.

Hi Anamitra, usually in research as well as in other disciplines, you do not want to reinvent the wheel. The best way of doing so is knowing/studying predecessor's contributions and building upon them or simply contributing further. I understand the "great names" as the researchers that made the more valuable contributions to the science. Those must obviously be given the highest interest...

I think introducing these names and their respective contribution to the discipline is very important. However, that knowledge should be imparted in a manner which enables students to see the connection between what they've suggested back then and its applicability to the present context. These kinds of exercises will help them to grasp key concepts and assess their relevance as well.
