Does anyone know of studies or can suggest approaches to deepen our understanding of the link between family-CEOs personality and their individual innovative behaviour
Interesting question. In my experience, the following are the factors, which influences the innovative behavior of family CEOs.
1. Their education and brought up. (Family members who studied in the WEST are found to be more innovative than the home study members of families in Asia.)
2. Their financial strength and family support for business. (Diverse family business tend to derail innovation in their parent businesses.
3. Ethics and family values. (CEOs from good family values and ethics are very careful about their innovative ideas before implementation.

This paper is interesting too. It shows the link between CEO's personality (for instance, Openness to Experience) and organizational culture characteristics (like innovation):
O’Reilly, C. A., III, Caldwell, D. F., Chatman, J. A., & Doerr, B. (2014). The promise and problems of organizational culture: CEO personality, culture, and firm performance. Group & Organization Management, 39(6), 595-625. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/1059601114550713
There is an old saying that "Charity Begins at Home". In the context of present question it signifies that family-CEOs personality and their individual innovative behaviour leads the organization to newer heights through not only newer ideas but also through other managerial and administrative measures.
