It seems evident that the SARS-CoV 2 pandemic is caused by the great transmission capacity of the virus (Ro = 3 (2.4-3.8) by droplets (Pflügger) by the survival capacity on the different inanimate surfaces and by the transmission of the asymptomatic.
Its incidence has reached such an extreme in each country that it is having great sanitary significance (collapse of the Health Systems and specifically of the ICUs) and, socially, due to the mortality associated with the disease of COVID 19. To the point that most of the Governments They are recommending quarantines and alarm states to achieve the confinement and isolation of individuals, families and the population. What will lead to great socioeconomic consequences with serious consequences and suffering for the most vulnerable such as the elderly and chronic
I consider that one of the aspects that has failed in this Pandemic has been the lack of a preventive culture of the population because Health Education and Health Literacy is failing in the population because it is not included as a transcendent competence between the activities and skills that patients must be incorporated.
Bearing in mind that Health Education must be made available to children. They do what they see parents, it is if it is their true class, because healthy habits and social values are acquired in the family and at home. That said, I believe that the population has failed due to not estimating the risk and, because preventive medicine is not given importance, therefore it is not practiced and even in current circumstances.
For health education and health promotion to work it not only has to be at the right literacy level but the message has to be clear. With the pandemic there are so many messages that come and go that is hard to be consistent which is critical. But the message needs to be clear and understandable by populations.
I agree with the characteristics of the message clear, concise, precise and, I would add personalized. For what is recommended in this message to be carried out there must be, first, a preventive culture, second awareness that its importance and, lastly, the one who issues it must have communication and personal and professional credit skills .
Also agree that what is happening in relation to COVID 19 is that information saturation and, this disorients and confuses a large part of the people.
Furthermore, differentiating in this world of open Science and Education the different conflicts of interest is very difficult for the general population.
The effectiveness of Health Education and the level of Health Literacy in a population are dependent on the populations overall level of comprehension of the subject. In this case we are referring to SARS-CoV 2
To comprehend the nature of SARS-CoV 2 the individual needs to appreciate:
1 What is a pandemic
2 How to understand and respond to official advice
3 The nature of the transmission process
4 How to organise your social life to maximum protective effect.
In the UK most people have not experienced a pandemic like this one. Therefore there is little personal or collective knowledge for how to respond.
The overall good level of public health has meant most people who are interested in their personal health focus on themselves, e.g. getting their 10,000 steps per day. SARS-CoV 2 requires them to rethink their priorities.
For others with less insight into health in general or battling limited personal and social resources asking them to practice "social isolation" is a requirement that cannot be fulfilled with any effectiveness. e.g. living in houses of multiple occupancy.
Health Education and literacy is important to limiting SARS-CoV 2 but to practice the knowledge you need to resources to do it.
I think the need of the hour and of the future is that Health Education and Health literacy have to go hand in hand and strategies have to be planned accordingly.
I agree, together with the strategies and measures that the Governments are taking to avoid new infections and reduce transmission, must be accompanied by Health Education campaigns for the different groups, especially in those in which these Sanitary Education activities are more important in relationship with groups and groups of people with the greatest needs in Literacy and Health Education.
Targeted Health Education and health communication strategies are critical for the control of SARS-COV 2 in all countries where it has become a pandemic. Targeted messages should be segmented and language of transmission, including the mode and channel must be suitable to the audience being targeted. The framing of such messages must also ensure it takes into consideration the cultural context of the audiences. Where messages are framed in a scaring manner ( negative) it may not achieve the desired behaviour change.
I agree that the information and messages of the preventive measures related to SARS-CovD 2 must be adjusted to the socio-health characteristics of the population group to which they are directed so that they create awareness of the need to carry them out for a personal interest. and for a responsibility towards others and for social commitment. In addition, I think that in today's society it is necessary that these councils be issued by official institutions such as WHO, CDC, Center for Infection Prevention and Control of the European Union, Ministries of Health of the different countries and, professionals with prestige and social credit in the smallest geographical and health areas and circumscrictions. In this way they will be more effective and efficient by reducing transmission, contagion, and hospital admissions.
