Calculate the antenna array weights for every direction and then update the weights adaptively when transmitting in that direction.

I don't get you here. You need to estimate the angle of arrival or if you already have that then the weights will be as per this angle.
what's your opinion about the zero forcing beamforming to determine the weight vectors instead of the estimation of the AOA?
In ZF-BF you must have accurate CSI or you need to estimate that. So yes in case of transmit you may do that, but as i said the CSI must be accurate.
