I have prepared a relaxor ferroelectric (KNN - BZZ solid solution) bulk sample. During P - E loop measurements, we experienced saturation electric field of about 100 kV/cm before dielectric break. However people reported saturation fields of about 350 kV/cm. How is this possible? I thought that it may be related to the density of bulk samples but we also used a Cold Isostatic Press but the result s are the same.
According to our experience, the saturation electric field depends on different sample (our sample is KTN solid solution) and its quality of growth. When electric fiel is too high, the sample will crack. Thus, it's not very useful for you to refer to the reported articles because of different components and growth conditions of sample.
Here, maybe one solution you can consider. For your sample, you can take an electric field that below 100 kV/cm and try again and again until an optimum voltage is found. You should note that the influence of previous experiments must be eliminated (annealing treatment is a good way to realize) and then carry out the next experiment.
Words in the end, for material researchers, the data of previous articles is not very helpful to your study even though you use same kind of samples. You should pay more attention to their good ideas and measured methods. I hope it can help you.
@ Junjie Li, you provide a good supplement. Generally, the larger thickness requires higher electric field. The electrode also has an influence. For example, Ti and Ag elctrode are better than Pt elctrode because of the lower work function. Besides, the volume of sample (or the electrode area) also plays a different role.
